The Neuro Emotional Technique (NET)

net stressThe Neuro Emotional Technique (NET) is a mind-body approach to help stress related conditions. Developed in the early 1980s it is a psychosomatic stress reduction intervention procedure aimed at improving health. Neuro Emotional Technique combines a number of techniques and principles from traditional Chinese medicine, chiropractic and applied kinesiology. It is an holistic approach to well-being focusing on imbalances in the structure of the skeletomuscular system, unresolved "negative emotional blocks", toxins in the body, and deficiencies in nutrition. NET describes "negative emotional complexes" (NEC) as being stored in the body, and claims to help release or resolve them. Anecdotally, patients reported they were less stressed, happier, and felt more at ease after treatment with NET.

Nutritional Assessment Plan

nutritionMedical Wellness Associates recognizes the relationship between diet and disease.  Our nutritional plans are based on a term that Roger Williams, PhD coined called, Biochemical Individuality.   Since no two individuals have the same fingerprint nor the identical dental records, we should not expect that a one size fits all nutritional plan will work across the board.  The physicians at MWA will recommend an individualized, comprehensive nutritional assessment and plan.  The assessment may include (please click on an item below for more information):
Medical history and nutrition interview - this provides the physicians with insight into your food preferences, cravings, potential allergies, and status of your digestive system.
Laboratory Analysis of Blood - this determines potential organic illnesses, as well as, insight into nutritional deficiencies.
Nutrition Anthropometrics - the Metabolic Syndrome (diabetes, hypertension, obesity, hyperlipidemia) is epidemic in the U.S. This test will determine your body measurements, percentage of body fat and loss of lean tissue mass as a baseline for lifestyle changes
Digestion, Absorption, Elimination Profile - Important test for those suffering from chronic GERD, Peptic Ulcer Disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Crohns Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, and Chronic Constipation.  Specific tests for digestive enzyme deficiencies, gut bacteria, parasites, fungal infections, and colon cancer risk.  Remember, it’s not what you eat, rather it’s what you digest, absorb and eliminate.
Food Allergy/Sensitivity Test - Blood test that determines “delayed” reactions to 95 foods that may contribute to Arthritis, Allergies, Chronic Fatigue, Asthma, ADD, Skin Diseases (Eczema, Psoriasis), Psychiatric Disorders, etc. Unlike conventional allergy evaluation that tests only for “immediate” reactions to foods (IgE) that are associated with anaphylactic reactions (shock and sometimes death), our testing involves both IgE (immediate) and IgG4 (delayed, up to 4 days after eating a food) via the Elisa method.
Female and Male Hormone Profiles - Urine, blood and saliva tests that indicate the levels of hormones that are often associated with menopause, andropause and reproductive diseases.  Important tests for those with Fatigue, Low Libido, Menopausal symptoms, Erectile Dysfunction, and Premature Aging. Patients often have subtle hormonal imbalances that can be detected with more in-depth profiles.  This is leading to what experts are now calling the new, emerging field called, “Functional Endocrinology”.
Organic Acid Test - Urine test that determines the functioning of your Krebs cycle (energy cycle) within your cells.  Tests your levels of neurotransmitters (serotonin, melatonin, etc), vitamins, minerals, and probiotic balance. {/slide} {slide=Thyroid Testing}Unique blood test panel that looks at the ratio of T3/T4, reverse T3 and free T3.  Important since many people continue with hypothyroid symptoms fatigue, depression, weight gain, etc.) despite taking adequate amounts of synthroid or armour thyroid. Hair Analysis - A tablespoon of hair is obtained from the nape of the neck to screen for heavy metal exposure and/or mineral imbalances. Toxic metals are linked to all of the major degenerative diseases (cancer, diabetes, heart disease, allergies, etc.)
Heavy Metal Challenge - Unlike blood tests for metals (Lead, Mercury, Aluminum, etc.) that test for acute toxicity, this is an oral and IV test that uses “chelating agents” (DMPS, DMSA, etc.) to assess your exposure to heavy metals. Most patients do not have acute toxicity. Rather, they have chronic storage of toxic metals from dental fillings, processed foods, water and air pollution, etc..  Metals accumulate in the heart, brain, bone, colon, etc. Heavy metals are implicated in childhood Autism, ADD/ADHD, memory and behavioral problems, and all of the neurodegenerative diseases (Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s, Neuropathy, etc.).  There is a strong link between heavy metal exposure and cancer, as well.
Gluten Sensitivity Testing - Gluten is a common protein found in wheat, rye, oat, and barley. Incompatibility to this protein can lead to celiac disease or gluten intolerance that is often associated with chronic diarrhea, anemia, skin diseases, seizure disorders, autism, arthritis, auto-immune diseases (Lupus, Rheumatoid, etc), neuropathy and many of the so-called mental illnesses------depression, anxiety, panic disorder, mood and behavioral changes, etc. This profile evaluates 3 different antibodies that positively correlate with gluten sensitivity. This test is also used to measure your progress, since the antibody tests normalize with prescribed dietary changes.
Metabolic Syndrome Test - This is a test for early detection of Diabetes and the Metabolic Syndrome. By the time Diabetes is diagnosed using conventional laboratory methods, patients already have significant cardiovascular disease.  This test evaluates, along with lifestyle evaluation, Insulin Tolerance during Glucose Tolerance Testing. Many patients who have normal blood glucose tolerance curves have abnormal insulin tolerance curves, which Dr. Kraft (Metabolic Researcher) refers to as Diabetes Mellitus in situ or Occult Diabetes.
Omega 3/Omega 6 Fatty Acid Markers - (Blood test)  A wide range of chronic medical conditions are now known to be related to chronic inflammation and can  respond to therapy with Fish Oils containing omega-3 fatty acids.  Recent studies describe the use of Omega-3 Fatty Acids in Heart Disease, Bipolar Disorder, ADD/ADHD, and Arthritis. When the EPA Fraction in the blood reaches 3.2%, inflammation is largely suppressed. This test can now be used as a Biomarker for high-dose Omega-3 therapy.  This is an important test for patients not only with chronic pain, but for those individuals with strong family histories of heart disease, cancer, and psychiatric disorders, since the genetic susceptibility may become expressed because of chronic, low grade inflammation.

Age Management Medicine

age managementThe conventional medical model suggests that health is merely the absence of disease. Within that model, aging is thought to be a progressive deterioration of vitality that culminates in disease.  Contemporary medicine then focuses all of its resources to treat the disease with invasive diagnostic procedures, costly pharmaceuticals, and multiple surgical interventions.

Age Management Medicine recognizes that health is more than the absence of disease.  Rather, it views health as the embodiment of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well being.  The focus, in this new model, is away from disease and onto prevention, lifestyle, nutrition, exercise, hormonal balance, and meditation and prayer.

Age Management Medicine recognizes that to be healthy, the doctor shifts from being an authority figure to a teacher, who instructs and empowers his patients to move towards wellness.  Similarly, the patient becomes an active participant who accepts responsibility for their health and, through guidance learns the principles of health and healing and applies them in every day life.

Age Management Medicine acknowledges that aging is a natural process that can be effectively managed.  You cannot stop your biological clock.  There are real challenges meeting you at various times in your individual aging process.  The key is how you live out your years and meet those challenges.

Listen to how age management medicine has helped Lisa cope:

Current scientific studies have demonstrated that most adults have significantly lower levels of several essential hormones by age 40.  Those key hormones include DHEA, thyroid, cortisol, estrogen and testosterone.  Insufficient levels of these major anti-stress hormones are linked to memory lapses, mood swings, fatigue, low libido, menopause/andropause, muscle and joint pain, loss of skin elasticity, osteoporosis, and increased body fat.

This progressive decline in health, associated with lower hormone levels, was once thought to be inevitable, resulting in both doctors and patients stating the same mantra, “What do you expect; I'm getting older” or “I guess I just have to learn to live with it”. Click here to check out the new study on menopause and acupuncture as reported on ABC NEWS. Dr. Gallagher is a certified medical acupuncturist and uses the technique to help manage the symtoms of menopause.

The current scientific breakthroughs in age management now suggest that although your hormone levels may be declining (along with your health), your hormone receptors do not decline with age.  Therefore, the complications of aging can be managed by replacing the declining hormone levels with human identical hormones that can reactive your hormone receptors and start improving your health.
The Age Management Program at Medical Wellness Associates begins with a comprehensive history & lifestyle evaluation to determine your specific metabolism, the status of your hormone levels and the overall functionality of your physiology.  Our program also includes functional laboratory tests for brain and body aging, metabolic errors, genetic markers, traditional risk factors, nutritional deficiencies, food allergies, heavy metal toxicity, and structural integrity of your muscles and joints.

Following your comprehensive evaluation, an individual age management program will be reviewed with you by the physician.  Treatment programs may include diet & lifestyle modification, human identical hormone therapy (bio-identical hormones), nutraceuticals (USP vitamins, enzymes, botanical medicines, homeopathics, etc), and structural integration (medical acupuncture, prolotherapy, spinal manipulation, etc.).

Ultimately, the philosophy of our age management program is, “better health and functional longevity” is not an accident but rather a choice.  Come with us and experience how to regain your health and maximize your health potential.
